Bishop Alvin Blake, was the second of eleven children born to a farming family in Connors District, St. Catherine, Jamaica, West Indies in May 1935. He was educated in Ginger Ridge District All Age School. The Bishop gave his heart to Jesus in August 1958 at the Church of God in Church Mission House at Connors District. After emigrating to England in February 1960, he settled in Luton, Bedfordshire, where a small group of believers had just started the Church of God in Christ. In 1962 he was appointed an Evangelist by Bishop McLachlan. In 1964 he was put in charge of the Luton Assembly. He was later ordained as an Elder and then installed as Pastor of the Luton Assembly. Under his visionary leadership, the first building was purchased in the name of Calvary Church of God in Christ in the United Kingdom in 1966. He studied and received a Certificate of Theology from the Selly Oak College, Central Birmingham, England. He was awarded the Doctor of Divinity by the European Theological Seminary in October 1998. The Bishop has served the church in various capacities to include member of the Executive Board, District Superintendent and Administrative Assistant of the United Kingdom Jurisdiction. For the past forty-one years he has been married to Mother Algurda V. Blake. They have five children and ten grandchildren.

On Monday November 9th 1998, at the International Convocation of the Church of God in Christ, he was consecrated as Jurisdictional Bishop of COGIC UK. On February 12th 1999 he was reaffirmed to the office and officially installed by the then Presiding Bishop of the Church of God in Christ Inc. the Revd. Chandler Owens. |
